Focus of the Month
May: Healthy Vision Day!
Much like many things in life, most of us don’t think much about our vision until something happens to it and we can’t see the way we want to. While most people won’t go fully blind in their lives, it is something that many people struggle with. According to the American Foundation for the Blind, 32.3 million adults in the United States reported vision loss in 2018. There are several conditions that can affect your eyes, ranging from macular degeneration to cataracts to lazy eyes. While some eye conditions cannot be prevented, some can be treated with proper care and management. |
Disorders like lazy eye can be quite noticeable and are usually very treatable if caught early.
While some eye conditions have immediate and noticeable symptoms, most have no pain and can progress slowly over time. Conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration start to show warning signs before they ever start to impact your vision. Many of these progressive eye conditions cannot be stopped entirely, but they can be slowed and maintained if caught early. Reporting any family history of eye diseases can also be instrumental in catching these conditions early.
Dr. Humpherys and Dr. Palmer recommend having an eye exam at least once a year to make sure that your eyes haven’t developed any problems. Seeing an optometrist can catch any problems you may be having, but it can also simply set your mind at ease. Schedule your appointment today!
