Focus of the Month: August: Children's Eye Health and Safety Month

With many schools resuming classes in August, now is the best time to get your children in for their annual vision exam! Poor vision can dramatically impact your child’s ability to do well in school: if she can’t see, she’ll have a harder time learning the things she needs to.
Many conditions can affect a child’s vision. These range from the normal nearsightedness and farsightedness to conditions like lazy eye or crossed eyes. These conditions can be corrected or helped by a visit to your eye doctor. Dr. Humpherys or Dr. Palmer can prescribe glasses to correct blurry vision or advise the use of a patch to help correct a lazy eye. These conditions can be corrected more easily when caught early, while children are still growing and developing. If you notice your child squinting or holding objects abnormally close, it could be a sign that he needs an eye exam.
Sports, along with other activities, also resume in the fall. Equipment like sports or swimming goggles not only can help your child to see, but provide essential protection. Wearing sports glasses will also help your children with their coordination and depth perception, both in sports and every day life.
If you have any concerns about your child’s vision, schedule an appointment with Dr. Humpherys or Dr. Palmer today!
