The best prevention for Glaucoma is regular eye exams. During comprehensive eye exams Dr. Humpherys will check your eye pressures and look for change in your optic nerve. Dr. Humpherys will also look for risk factors that may affect you as well. Some of the risk factors include: family history, age, patients with severe myopia or hyperopia, patients on steroids, diabetic patients, weight, high blood pressure and patients with high eye pressures.
During the eye exam if a patient has high pressures and or damage to the optic nerve it may be suggested that you start using drops to lower your pressure. While glaucoma cannot be cured, if caught in the early stages blindness can be prevented. Make sure and check out our facebook page to learn more about Glaucoma this month.
